MISSION STATEMENT

The Orwell Free Library provides our patrons with a welcoming atmosphere in which to enrich their lives through literary enjoyment and self-education while also fostering partnerships within the community in positive and productive ways. Through the use of traditional and emerging media and technologies the library creates an information resource to encourage lifelong learning.

BORROWING POLICIES

If library material is overdue by a month the Librarian will communicate with the borrower as a reminder to return the borrowed item. Length of time an item can be borrowed depends on the item as follows:
New books can be charged out for two weeks; other books can be charged out for a month.
Audiovisual resources can be charged out for 2 weeks.
Inter library loan time is dependent on the library from which the loan has been made.

Patrons will be billed the replacement cost for lost or damaged materials.

Patrons will be billed the replacement cost for materials 2 or more months late.

Service and loan privileges will be denied only for due cause as determined by the Librarian. For example, “due cause” may include misuse of library materials or the building, negligence in returning library materials when due and failure to make proper restitution for lost materials.
